All that Jazz Katrina the Hurricane Survivor Quilt

All that Jazz Katrina the Hurricane Survivor Quilt

I received a simply wonderful email this morning from Dee Stark as I had invited her to be one of the 19 invitees for the All that Jazz Katrina. Dee Stark is well known as an instructor and lecturer in crazy quilting and is the author of A Spiderweb for Luck: Symbols & Motifs used in Crazy Quilting.(Details about this book are on her web site)

Dee wrote a supurb email of acceptance even though she was in a hurry as she had her bags packed and was waiting to be waiting to be deployed with the American Red Cross. So it is with great pleasure that I can announce we have our 18th ‘well known’ crazy quilter. I am still waiting for the last to respond. I have published the full list of crazy quilters participating in this on Guidelines page.

How you can participate
Join in and make an 8 inch crazy quilt block. Images of all donated blocks will be published on my site and people can vote for their favourite. The winner’s block will be the 20th block in this quilt chosen by popular vote.

All donated blocks will also be made into quilts or small wall pieces to be sold. So hopefully we will have two quilts one from invitees and a winner of this competition and one or more made of blocks that people have submitted. All proceeds are going to the Red Cross.

Full details on who is participating, what is required, theme and how it will work are published on the Guidelines page

I have established a flickr group for the project called All that Jazz Katrina Hurricane Survivor Quilt which people can post images to as they work and join in on the discussion.

Vivienne Garforth of Anlabyhouse has already put up an image of a blank block and an image of her her visual journal packed full of ideas for the project. I got excited just looking at it – all those vibrant energetic images.

Leave comments here and over on the flickr group as this is where the fun starts and please spread the word about the project as it is a worthy cause.
