100 details for 100 days Day 94

Day 94 100 crazy quilt details in 100 daysThe detail for day 94, features a row of Herringbone Stitch that has small straight stitches added where the threads cross, top and bottom. This turns Herringbone stitch into stitch called Tied Herringbone! I worked the foundation row of herringbone in DMC cotton perle #5 thread. Next I used small straight stitches to ‘tie’ the herringbone. For this stage I used a light blue DMC cotton perle #12 thread.

Along the top of Herringbone I worked  a line of individual Oyster stitches worked in rayon ribbon floss.  These stitches were then topped with a small pearl bead. At the base of row of Herringbone I tucked sequins in the inverted V spaces.

In the photograph you can see another seam, that runs diagonally upwards from the bottom left corner.  This seam embellishment starts with very widely spaced buttonhole stitch. Into the corner of the L shape created by the buttonhole stitches I worked  three detached chain stitches using DMC cotton perle #5. Using a finer thread I tucked another detached chain stitch on the outside corner of the L at a 45 degree angle.

At the top of the buttonhole stitches, in a finer thread I also worked chain stitches which were finished off with a tiny bead. In a finer thread still, I added two straight stitches. The seam decoration looks complex but it is actually very simple!
