Stitches:
This seam is embellished with a line of chevron stitch, which has had a thread laced through it. A line of detached chain stitches topped the chevron stitches and a further detached chain was worked in different thread. Finally pistil stitches were worked in the V of the chevron stitches.
Threads:
The Chevron stitch was worked in a hand dyed cotton which was then laced with some lampshade fringing which I unpulled and dyed. It is very similar to Bunka thread.
Finally I used a perle thread #8 to work the pistil stitches.
Placement and Foundation Fabric:
This seam is between piece 6 and pieces 1, 2 and 5. You will find the diagram in the post I wrote to introduce block 10. In the same article I also talked about the foundation fabrics I used.
Dyes:
Procion cold water dyes for the cotton threads and disperse dyes (also known as transfer dyes) on the synthetic threads such as lampshade fringing.
What is the story?
This regularly published series aims to illustrate and document the hand embroidered seams, embellishments and decorations on my crazy quilt I dropped the button box. All articles are categorised in the projects under Crazy Quilt details which enables readers to browse back through the series.
Free Crazy quilt block patterns
In the process of documenting the seam decorations on this quilt, as I get to each block I am diagramming it out for readers as a free crazy quilt pattern. Links to these free pattern pages are listed on the CQ details FAQ page.
