Introducing block 52 on the “I dropped the button box” quilt

Crazy quilt block blue

Block 52 is a mainly monotone blue. I also went over the top using buttons! I have to admit that 18 buttons on a 6 inch block is a little extreme but it looks Ok in context and I like buttons… Dont ask me why the heart button is upside down I think I made a mistake.

Over the next few weeks I will focus on each seam and embellishment and I hope the  crazy quilters  out there will enjoy seeing each close up.

  1. Bobbi the block is right way up – it is the way it is on the quilt and where it sits the buttons are balanced out with another block – hope that makes sense!

  2. Briony I hang them on the wall – I never use them as quilts as even in the Victorian days crazy quilts were draped over a chaise lounge for show. They were for highlighting embroidery skills and demonstrating there were enough domestic servants in the house that a mans wife could spend time on purely decorative needlework. They are heavy but I have a double back like in my Diamond quilt I blogged it all here you just have to work back through the posts to see what I did.

  3. Hi, I love making crazy embellished patchwork blocks but am getting a bit disillusioned about what to do with them. I was thinking of hanging them on the wall but with 5 cats they would soon be festooned in fluff if not put under glass. The only other thing I can think of is a quilt and surely this would be sooooo heavy.
Any suggestions please, what do you do with yours?
