Over on Di van Niekerks site she has published a tutorial on how to make stumpwork Hydrangeas. Her method is to make a little slip and then add that to your embroidery.
I have also seen this technique used to create hand made buttons.

Another thanks for the link Sharon. This opens a new direction for me to explore! I have plans for an undersea 'garden', so my mind will be busy all day reconfiguring Hydrangeas into coral and fish 🙂
