Work in Progress Wednesday Lace Crazy Quilt block 23

crazy quilt lace block 23 hand embroidered

The work in progress Wednesdays role around far too quickly. That said trying to regularly report on what I am doing does make me focus on what I have been doing.

Question:Β Is anyone else interested in joining me for a Work in Progress Wednesday?

Who is working on large project like a quilt and could do with a regular goal to prod things along? Anyone want to share what they have done? Work in Progress is just that you report on how far you have got not that you have finished. Of course you report a finish too but the idea is to share the process.

It could work like TAST with people leaving a link that readers could visit. Β Let me know if anyone is interested and leave a comment. There is no reason why we could not turn Work in Progress Wednesdays into something that helps people push what ever they are working on a bit further but keep it light and interesting.

Ok what have I been doing? today I would like to share another completed crazy quilt block that will be used on my lace quilt. The blocks are 7 inches square. I think since this is the 23rd block we could say this project is well underway. There will be 49 blocks in the quilt.

If you click on the image you will be able to see a larger version.

There are some seams embellished with stitches that will be in Module 7 of my stitchers worksheets. I am nearly finished Β the eye candy samples for this next module.

Why am I calling it the lace quilt?Β

I was given a gift of lace β€œtowards my next quilt” from Margaret Roberts a warm generous woman. At the timeΒ I wrote about it here. I have combined that gift with my hoard and I have since worked out there is enough lace for at least another 2 quilts after this one! So I will be busy!

Where are the other blocks?

You will find all the other blocks in theΒ Lace Quilt category

  1. ……reading all this! ………I started a small wall quilt in an untraditional way, appliqΓ©d patches and stitches. Open seems – fixing the patches just with embroidery stitches.
    A real WISP project!

  2. This is a great idea. Of course, for the first Wednesday I will be at a crazy quilt retreat. I should be able to finish at least a block to show next week. I signed up for TAST, but fell by the wayside. I am keeping up with the CQJP blocks, so far.

  3. Well where do I start! πŸ™‚ I have my Sumptuous Surfaces to finish, I have a very large spinning commission that I said 5 months ago would take me about 6 months and I am only a quarter of the way through, a knitted jacket that is stalled on the last sleeve and two weaving projects that are stalled before I have even wound the warp!
So where do we post?? I haven’t quite worked that out as yet.

    1. Yes stalled projects would definitely be an aspect of this. Where do you post? A flickr account or stitchin fingers or a blog what ever you wish. I will run it like ast people can swing by and leave a link.

  4. I tried something like this on my blog last year and it resulted in a few finished WISP’s. This year it doesn’t work, so maybe this is just what I need to get me working on some old projects again!

  5. I love the idea. My long overdue project is a millennium cross stitch sampler I was given. As you can see it is 12 years behind schedule but since I have been including it in posts on my blog I have moved it forward. I also want to make a large quilt for me but I haven’t even got round to starting this project yet.

  6. I’m in. I’m behind on TAST but in my defense I’ve been working on two quilts (one crazy quilt and one ‘sane’ quilt). A WIP Wednesday is the kick in the butt I need to finish these.

  7. Sharon,

I am working on a needlepoint canvas on my own . Though its not a big one like a quilt, my progress made is pretty as I am learning it from free websites. Is this fine to be included in this WIP wednesdays?

    1. I see no reason why not – anything in the fiber/stitching line that takes time could be included the aim is to encourage finishing larger projects or preventing them from becoming stalled.

  8. I like this idea. I’m working on a project ( CQ) that I’m having trouble staying enthused about. I feel that it would be easier some days to herd cats than work on it.

  9. Oh yes, definitely! I do a Wednesday WIP post on a forum that I could link to if that would be OK. Or I could post the details here. Whichever you think is best. I have lots of WIPS that definitley take more than 20 hours! LOL And another “look a squirrel” attention span issue!

  10. I love this idea. I have a quilt I have been working on for more years (yes, years) than I care to admit. As new projects come along I lose interest in it but it really is not far away from being completed. I could use a kick in the pants to get it finished!

  11. hi sharon,
could that also include those of us working on our CQJournal 2012 blocks… I have fallen way behind and I think my reluctance now is that I feel like I’ll never catch up. perhaps it would give me more incentive to continue if we had a update work in progress here…

  12. I like this idea. Would there be a place we could post photos if we do not have a blog or website? I like the accountability with needing to post every week. Because I rotate through several projects, could the post be about the current project, or was the idea to work exclusively on one specific project?

    1. Sandi publishing a photos of your work would have to be like TAST – flickr and stitchin fingers are both free sites its just a case joining and doing it. As to just working on one project that is fine. The idea is to help people who work on larger projects. We all start them and some of us need help to stay enthused! So we would have to figure out a definition of a larger project. I suggest it could be anything that takes longer than say 20 hours to complete.
