Section 44 of For the Love of Stitching Sampler

Journal needlework samplerAfter the Winter of 2009 (when Mum died) I needed a lift, so come spring I started Section 44 of the sampler.

Normally I use either 25 cnt linen, 28 cnt linen, or Aida for each section but this time in need of a different format  I  patchworked together hand dyed fabrics as the foundation cloth of the sampler. All the fabrics were scraps and left overs from other projects and I felt I was not wasting anything by experimenting on them. I quite like breaking out of the regularity of line upon line of stitching.

This section also has a few more stories that are along autobiographical lines.

A month after Mum died and in need of little break we took a trip to Sydney. I also marked the anniversary of man landing on the moon as it was an event that really caught my imagination as a young teen. With the start of spring, every year Canberra has a huge flower festival called Floriade. A few months later  we went to Christchurch to see Eve (our daughter) perform in a show called Lydian Age.

I did not do a lot of stitching in the second part of 2009 and as a result it was a strange mish mash of a sampler but it someways that reflects that year of my life!

In future posts I will discuss each area of stitchery and explain what threads I used. I hope readers find it interesting as many of the stitches will appear later this year as part of Take a Stitch Tuesday (TAST)

  1. I’d *love* to know which stitches were used in your sampler 😀 I always wonder what’s used when I see it and was somewhat disappointed in the past that you didn’t mention which stitches you used as there have been a few I wanted to try but couldn’t see what they were.
