Work in Progress Wednesday Block 42 started

Block 42 startedThis is the last block in this quilt. I am so looking forward to doing something else once these blocks are done! I am sure everyone feels like this at the end of a large project such as quilt. Anyway here it the block and hopefully next week I will be able share what I have stitched on it.  It is the same colour scheme as my last block so should be fun to work.

Work in Progress Wednesday Block 41 done

Block 41 doneOnce again I am exited to report that I have done block 41 in my Lace quilt and I would like to share it with my readers. If you click on the thumbnail you will be taken to larger view of the block.

I found working gin the stronger colours a lot more fun and enjoyed stitching the large floral spray that creeps up the block spilling over the seams and into a number of the patches. I used Up and down feathered buttonhole again. It is TAST stitch 61 and is proving to be a wonderfully versatile stitch.

The middle of each flower I attached a domed sequin. Some people think sequins are tacky but I like thee at they are a bronze and being in a dome shape look very different to normal sequins. The lace flowers are hand dyed. I dipped them in at the same time as I dyed the peril #5 thread I used on the block.

You will find all the other blocks in the Lace Quilt category

Work in Progress Wednesdays (WIP Wednesdays)  is not exactly a challenge as it is more like a support group! The aim is to encourage people to complete  languishing projects or WISPs (Works in Slow Progress) or completing UFOs (unfinished objects) or those in the process of de-stashing.

The idea is, that if you regularly report publicly on a project you are more likely to pick it up and work it a little. Even if it means the project is out and ‘looking at you’ for most stitchers it means they will work it a little. So if you have something you want to share please do!

Work in Progress Wednesday Block 40 done

Block 40 Yay! I am dancing about this morning as I am pleased to have this block done!

This quilt seems to be taking forever and day to stitch but every large project is like that. Towards the end there is a mood of wanting to just get it done. I am at the “I must push through and get this done stage”. In order to make it more enjoyable I tried a few new stitches out on the block.

As usual click on the thumbnail and you will see a larger version of the block.

There are 2 stitches on this block that I will include on TAST soon. I have yet to write the tutorials but both I think are interesting stitches and both are quick to work up.

Beaded looped cretan stitch

The first stitch discovery is Beaded looped Cretan. Looped Cretan is a new stitch to me discovered in an old stitch book and I took it a step further and added a bead to the stitch process. I think it looks interesting and it was quick to do.So I will definitely write a tutorial on it and experiment more with it

The second is buttonholed cable chain which I can see becoming a favourite as it is neat. I think it will look great in variegated or hand dyed threads too. I will experiment some more.

Buttonhole up and-down feather stitch on Block 40This detail is up and down feather buttonhole stitch which was a TAST stitch in week 61 if you follow the link there is a tutorial on how to do it.

The last detail I want to share involves a small cross stitch pattern I worked using waste canvas. The waste canvas technique is not something I use often but I think I will.
