Choosing a studio or art journal

Starting an art journal or studio journal is not difficult as you do not need too many art supplies. However when some folks first walk into an art store they are a little daunted at the range of sketchbooks available.
Kelley Brown of art journaling as a creative process has written a very good article on Choosing a Journal. All the pros and cons of bound journals, spiral bound sketchbooks, altered books, and hand bound books.
Pop over and read Choosing a Journal and while you are there make a cuppa and explore her site there are loads of resources to be discovered.

Art journal technique

I have become interested in aspects of creating art travel journals. This is particularly the case since my travels earlier this year.  One aspect of art journalling is a desing technique that involves framing small aspects of a scene or image and concentrating on that .

Milliande calls this framing ‘grid’ journalling and has produced a video demonstrating it in her travel journal. It is a simple but very effective technique on its own but particularly interesting when travelling as the experience of travel is often to notice a jumble of little things.

I hope you enjoy the video Grid Journaling London Rooftops presented by Milliande.
