CQ Detail 53

Stitches:

This seam is embellished with a line of  stepped and threaded running stitch. When ever I use this stitch I feel it is cheating because it is so easy to do. I further embellished the seam with  long tailed detached  chain stitch which is simply detached chain with a long tie. Its similar to the stitch units in feathered chain.

Thread:

The foundation running stitches are worked in a hand dyed perle cotton, then laced with a metallic yarn called Excel. The long tailed detached chain stitches are worked in DMC perle # 5

Placement and Foundation Fabric:

This seam is between piece 5  and pieces 1 and 4. You will find the diagram in the post that introduces block 8. In the same article I also talked about the foundation fabrics I used.

Dyes:

Procion cold water dyes used for thread

Introducing crazy quilt block 8

crazy quilt block detail

I would like to introduce block 8 in the I dropped the Button Box quilt . I hope people will enjoy seeing it in more detail over the next week or so.

Fabric content:

How I managed a small block like this with 9 pieces of fabric on it I am not sure but I did! It was of course in order to help make the number of  2001 elements

  • Piece 1: Silk from a second hand op shop find
  • Piece 2: Polyester from a blouse.
  • Piece 3: Polyester costuming scrap
  • Piece 4: Polyester from a blouse
  • Piece 5: Polyester
  • Piece 6: Polyester Satin
  • Piece 7: Velvet

Item Count:

As I have explained before this quilt is a Y2K quilt which is made up of 2001 different elements. My definition of an element was either a different fabric, lace, braid, charm, buttons or ribbon. So far this is the count

  • Fabric: 7
  • Lace and braid: 3
  • Buttons: 4
  • Total items on this block:  14
  • Total tally on Quilt so far 154
