Crafts and Health

Nancy Monson in an interesting excerpt from The Healing Power of Crafts argues that there are mental and physical benefits to craft activities.

Carving out time for sewing, quilting, stitching or what ever your interest is, in a busy day is difficult particularly for women who are often juggling responsibilities at home and in the work place. People can justify losing weight or taking up an exercise routine but find it difficult to justify what they see as a self indulgent activity. Perhaps it is time to rethink this attitude. After presenting findings from various medial studies and sources Nancy Monson shapes some guidelines for people who do not prioritise their craft activities high on their to do list. There are some good nuggets here to think about and act on.

  1. Hey, I am working on an informative speech for my college speech class and I thought I would do it on crafts and how crafts can benefit people and can’t seem to find much information so I was wondering if you could help me some. Any information you can give me would be very helpful. Thanks.
