100 details for 100 days Day 6

Day 6 CQ detail
One of the reasons I left the link to printable colouring books yesterday was because I knew this little detail was coming up.

It’s a butterfly measuring about 2 inches across, with a couched body of chenille thread. The wings are made using Long and Short stitch which is not yet in my stitch dictionary but the Embroiderers Guild UK has directions for long and short stitch here. I worked this in single strand DMC cotton floss.

While on the Embroiderers Guild site there is a very good article written by Jan Beaney, titled Laying it on the line . It will provoke some ideas that can be applied to crazy quilting I am sure.

This morning I notice that Annie Whitsed of Annies Crazy World is focusing on embellishments and has provided a small tutorial on how to make a simple three petal ribbon flower.

Suze of Caricol Creations is totally new to crazy quilting and has stared to play along with this idea to. This is exciting as this is Suze’s first step into crazy quilting and she is discovering it is fun. Swing by her site and give her some encouragement. Half the reason I sit tapping at this keyboard every morning is because I love crazy quilting and want to promote it. So when I see beginners step up and give it a try I have a sense of satisfaction.

For anyone just swinging by this series of posts are listed under 100 details in 100 days in this blog. Over on Flickr it is associated with the Crazyquilting Group and photos are tagged 100detailsin100days

  1. Sharon, What a wonderful thing you are doing for us. A few of us on the CQforNewbies list are working along, following your examples, but alas, we are not as swift as you. Thanks for leaving them in the archive so we can see them. Your work is beautiful, and most inspirational!
