For the Love of Stitching Sampler – Band 92

 

This area of stitching I was experimenting with pattern. Starting and the top of the band and working towards the middle, the pulled stitches are an upright cross – it is just the same as a cross stitch only turned 45 degrees to an upright position and worked in diagonal rows.

I then worked two lines of straight stitches as you would in bargello work.

Next I worked upright cross stitch as a normal stitch in wool. In otherwords the same as the first area but without pulling it.

This was followed by a line of straight stitches

The middle ‘row’ is a line of algerian eye stitches worked in blocks of 4.

Then the process was repeated in reverse for the other half of the pattern.

Thread:

The pulled upright cross is worked in is worked in hand dyed mercerised cotton

The first line of straight stitches is worked in hand dyed soft crochet cotton

The second line of straight stitches is worked in hand dyed silk

The upright cross worked as a canvas stitch is worked in hand dyed wool

The next line of straight stitches is worked in hand dyed silk

The algerian eye stitches are worked in hand dyed perle cotton

All threads hand dyed by me.

Fabric:

This section of my sampler is worked on 26 count linen

Dyes:

Procion cold water dyes for threads that consist of natural fibre such as the cotton, wool and silk .

Size:

All samples are 15 cm (6 inches) wide and stitched together in one long band sampler.

The sampler is currently 44 ft 5 inches or 533 inches (1353.83 centimetres) or 14.8 yards  (13.53 metres) long and still being added to.
