crazy quilt block detail

This detail is actually 3 details but I thought they could all be covered in one post. First there is the seam treatment, then the lace motif and finally the charm

Stitches:

This seam is covered with a piece of braid. Each side of the braid is embellished with a line of stitching. The bottom  of the braid is straight stitch and the top of the braid is a line of Oyster stitch with an extra straight stitch added to the end of the stitch.

Thread:

The oyster stitches are worked in DMC perle thread #8.

A hand dyed silk was used for the straight stitches worked along the base of the braid.

Placement and Foundation Fabric:

This seam is between piece 3 and pieces 1 and 2 on the diagram of block 11. In the same post I wrote about the fabrics I used on the block.

Type of braid

This braid was found in remnant bag in a soft furnishings shop.

Lace:

The lace motif was hand dyed by me and I embellished a little further with seed beads.

Dyes:

Procion cold water dyes for the silk thread

Charm:

The little blue bird has sentimental value as the first necklace I was give as a girl of 12 was a small blue bird. When i saw the charm it immediately took me back so I included it on the block.

What is the story?
