For the Love of Stitching Sampler – Band 353

Gosh it feels strange to be writing about this part of the Sampler at the moment. I mentioned when I introduced section 26, that just as I was completing the sampler Labour won the election, I stitched it on the panel to mark the date.  We had a then, new Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. Now not 48 hours ago Mr Rudd departs this roll and Julia Gillard steps into the position.

I am re-thinking this ‘journal’ aspect to the sampler. (If you are not sure what on earth I am babbling about  take a look again at the bottom of section 26) Probably the term re-thinking is wrong it is more a case of percieving the practice in a new light. As the news broke about  Julia Gillard  I immediately thought Oh our first female Prime minister – That must get stitched on my latest and found the pattern between the two events interesting and bit odd. But Life is often like that …

Anyway to get on with this detail of the band sampler.

Stitches

This band of stitching is made up of row of herringbone stitch which is overlapped with chevron stitch.  On the top bar of the chevron stitch I have ‘rose buds’ worked in bullion stitch with a fly stitch base.

Thread

Both the Herringbone and Chevron are worked in DMC perle #8 thread. The rose buds are hand dyed wool that is the same thickness as Appletons wool and the fly stitch is a silk.

Fabric:

Linda, 27cnt evenweave fabric produced by Zweigart

Dyes:

Procion dyes for the wool and silk thread

Date:

This section of the sampler was worked in November 2007.

Size:

The For Love of Stitching Band Sampler is 15 cm (6 inches) wide. It consists of different strips of fabric which are are stitched together to form one long strip. It currently measures 24.8 yards or 22.75 metres long and I have more bands to add.
