Crazy quilt hand embroidered seam decoration:

This is the first seam detail on block 41 of the I  Dropped the Button Box Quilt. It is a row of chain stitch worked in half circles above a seam that has been decorated with commercial embroidery Anglaise edging fabric. This type of Polycotton fabric has a machine stitched decorative pattern. This piece came off a garment which I dyed and recycled the edging. I added seed beads to both the chain stitch and the embroidery Anglaise edging.

Thread:

Perle #5 cotton thread for the chain stitch

Free Crazy quilt block patterns
In the process of documenting the seam decorations on this quilt, as I get to each block I am diagramming it out for readers as a free crazy quilt pattern. Links to these free pattern pages are listed on the CQ details FAQ page.

I have released the block patterns and stitch ideas for non commercial use but I retain all copyright. Please attribute the work to me, and link back to this blog. You may not take whole articles from this series and republish online. Link please dont republish.

  1. Karla – I always mean to put together a proposal and send it off to publishers but to be honest I never manage it – so I have no book but I am tempted to say add no book yet…
