Section 33 on the For Love of Stitching Sampler

Section 33 of the For Love of Stitching Band Sampler is another long section but this time, getting tired of the usual format  I tried a little experiment with the foundation fabric as I patch worked it together.

needlework sampler sectionThe image above is a picture of what it looked like before I started to stitch. The white fabric along the side is simply scrap sheeting that I added so I could easily get the strip on a hoop. The tack lines are the edge of the sampler.

Stitchin Fingers had not been running long and we were to have a stitch along but it never really took off. (Unfortunately as of late 2016 Stitchin Fingers no longer exists) I have found that unless there is a large group to get the energy going, very definite outline of stitches (like TAST)  and I am very hands on, people are inclined to lose interest and drop away. I forget why, but I could not at that time only be moderately active but the good news is that in my eyes the stitch along has morphed into the stitch junkies group which is stitching along!

Fabric:

This section is a mix of fabrics and fabric counts as I pieced together a strip of hand dyed evenweave needlework fabrics. They are all different thread counts and not all were just bands.

Many of the sections I used to experiment on yet others are quite traditional as they are ideal patterns to use on crazy quilting seams or as motifs on a crazy quilt block so I hope readers will enjoy this section.

Did I like the various fabric choices?

Yes, it was fun once I got used to changing fabric count so often and not simply getting into a rhythm of laying down line after line of stitching. The different fabrics allowed for different needlework techniques so there was always something new to try on another area. I did not take advantage enough of this but I have since used this pieced foundation style again on the sampler and I am becoming better at spotting a creative opportunity.

From this point on in the sampler people spot sections that have been worked on strips of linen and sections that have been pieced like this one.

Threads:

This area of the band sampler contains a mix of threads which I will speak about in detail as I cover each part.

Date:

This section of  sampler was started in July of 2008 and completed towards the end of the year.

Size:

The For Love of Stitching Band Sampler is 15 cm (6 inches) wide. It consists of different strips of fabric which are are stitched together to form one long strip. It currently measures 24.8 yards or 22.75 metres long and I have more bands to add.
