Needlework Detail 641 and 642 on the For Love of Stitching Band Sampler

photo of needlework samplerIt is time to recommence sharing these little areas on my band sampler. Today I have 2 close up details to share as they sit side by side on the sampler.

To jog readers memory here is section 48 of my band sampler, which I introduced before Christmas. (Follow the link to read the whole post)

At the time I had  returned to the idea of using different foundation fabrics by patch working them together. One of the reasons for doing this is to break out of simply stitching line after line as the different fabrics enable experimentation. It means I just have to deal with changes in thread count and changes in foundation cloth colour as I go. I can’t plan ahead, so have to respond to fabric and colour as I work down the cloth. Although I have learnt much by changing the foundation fabrics in the sections it can lead to a mess too! I do unpick on some projects but to be honest I do not unpick much on my sampler as the sampler is really about experimenting and giving myself permission to learn.

This little detail sits at the top of the sampler. It is an instance of telling my story as we went to Melbourne for our 30th anniversary and saw the new year of 2010 in there.

Thread, Fabric and Stitches Used:

The thread is a hand dyed silk.  I worked text in back stitch  and cross stick and the bar of stitching is Raised Herringbone band which is part of the TAST challenge series. The fabric is hand dyed  25 cnt linen.

Detail 642

Needlework Sampler band 642 I have turned this section side ways. It was supposed to represent the fireworks we saw on new years eve and the photo does not really do it justice.

Thread, Fabric and Stitches Used:

The thread is a mix of metallic threads. perle #8, rayon threads and silk. I basically reached for anything that had a shine. It is mainly straight stitches with a sprinkle of seed beads to add extra sparkle.

Date:

This section of the sampler was worked January 2010.

Size:

This area is a section in my  Love of Stitching Band Sampler which is 15 cm (6 inches) wide and currently measures 96 feet 5 inches (2,938.78 centimetres), or  32.138 yards which is 29.3878 meters. It is still growing…
