Detail 644 and 645 on the For love of Stitching Band Sampler

Needlework Sampler band 644I have 2  details of my band sampler to share with readers today.

Just to jog peoples memory this is section 48 of my band sampler which you can read about further if you follow the link

Regular readers will remember that with this section of my sampler  I had patch worked together different foundation fabrics. The reason I sharing 2 details is because this demonstrates clearly the different fabrics.

Thread, Fabric and Stitches Used on detail 644:

This as you can read is small piece of text worked in back stitch that marks another world disaster- the earthquake in Haiti. I was asked once why I seem to record the disasters. I think it is because I stitch in front of the TV and it is such a contrast I am comfortable and these horrid things are happening. I always feel numb at the appauling news.

The fabric is hand printed 26 cnt linen. Next to it is a very small piece of hand dyed 18 cut Aida.  I had a scrap of it which I used when I patch worked together the strip. I worked Algerian eye stitch in perle #8 cotton.

Needlework Sampler band 645

Thread, Fabric and Stitches Used on detail 645:

This is a small experiment with 2 rows of  buttonholed herringbone stitch worked back to back (follow the link to see how it is done)  The fabric is hardanger 22 cnt. Once again this was a scrap left over from another project which I used when I patched together the foundation fabric. The thread is a fine hand knitting wool I had to hand. It has a metallic fleck in it. Beads are added in the spaces along the middle.

Date:

This section of the sampler was worked January 2010.

Size:

This area is a section in my  Love of Stitching Band Sampler which is 15 cm (6 inches) wide and currently measures 96 feet 5 inches (2,938.78 centimetres), or  32.138 yards which is 29.3878 meters. It is still growing…and is all hand stitched

  1. Thank you for the tip of making patchwork out of scraps of embroidery fabric. I also think it is a good idea to record news or important events in our work; we see how time flies, we don’t forget disasters or celebrations, and one day in the far future textile historians will be grateful for all that information!
