Crazy Quilt Seam Detail 517

Crazy quilt block 78

The Crazy Quilt details  series of articles each highlight the hand embroidered seams and embellishments on the blocks that make up my crazy quilt I dropped the button box. I hope the eye candy and details give you ideas fro your own crazy quilting projects. For a free pattern of the block and information about the fabrics I used when I made up the block click on the block thumbnail.

This hand embroidered detail is a seam on block 78. This seam decoration is made up of some cotton cutwork lace that cut off the edge of an old petty coat found at a second hand charity shop. I hand dyed purple. Since it was disappearing under the button bead trail I emphasised it with a few straight stitches. To do this I used stranded cotton floss.

      1. Hi Sharon, I have been reading the articles you reference about dyeing. They are very informative but all seem to be for large amounts, like 5 lbs of fabric. I was hoping to find information about dyeing in small amounts. Like say a yard of lace…

        Thanks,
        Nicky
