Freeform Hand Embroidery Sampler detail 693, 694 and 695

Needlework sampler section 51 aI have 3 details to share with readers. They are all from section 51 on my Love of Stitching Band Sampler, and demonstrate how you can vary a stitch.  If you are curious  click on the thumbnail to find out more about this section of the sampler.

Size, Date and Fabric

The whole sampler is 15 cm (6 inches) wide and 96 feet 5 inches or 29.3878 meters long. You can read about it on the the Sampler FAQ page.

The fabric is a 25cnt evenweave linen

This strip of the sampler was worked between June and December of 2010.

Stitches used in this area

Detail 693 is worked in hand dyed wool. The flower heads are made of slipped detached chain stitches. The stems are back stitch and the detached chain was used to represent the leaves.

Detail 694 are also worked in a similar manner only when I worked the head of the flower, instead of using a detached chain I used oyster stitch. The yellow flowers are wool and the stems in back stitch are perle #8 cotton

This detail is another experiment. I worked sets of 4 slipped detached chain stitches in squares and pointed them towards the middle. I then added a wooden bead. They are quite bulky as beads go but I liked the rough and ready look. The wool is a hand dyed thread.
