It is the beginning of the new year and summer in Australia. For me it is time to have a clean out and organise my thoughts about stitching projects for the coming. In my workroom blitze I realised I needed to de-stash my threads! My de-stash is your gain.
Experimenting with different threads can be expensive, as you would normally have to buy a whole skein of each type of thread. So it occurred to me to make up thread twisties of different threads to enable people to try out and test stitching with something other than stranded cotton. With the twisties I have made up, for the price of just a few skeins you can play and experiment with a bundle of threads of luscious colours and many different textures.
Each twistie is a thread bundle containing silk, cotton, rayon and wool. As far as possible each twistie is made up of threads that are all different. Threads range from extra fine (the same thickness as 1 strand of embroidery floss) to chunky couchable textured yarns. All threads have a soft and manageable drape so that twisting them around a needle makes experimental hand embroidery an interesting journey rather than a battle. Many are hand dyed by me. All are threads I use. You may find a similar thread twist but no two are identical.
2 metre thread twists have at least 40 threads cut to 2 meter (79 inches) lengths. As a rule of thumb as it depends on the particular stitch you work but generally 1 meter of thread is enough to work a line of stitching on a sampler that is 6-8 inches wide, or embellish a seam on a crazy quilting project. 2 meters give you enough to experiment with a bit more if you choose.
So these are creative embroiders threads. With them I hope to encourage you to experiment. The last time I did this was about 5 years ago – so take advantage of it as I don’t have a de-stash often.
PLEASE NOTE! These did sell out in 30 Minutes! But new stocks are now in the shop
You will find my thread twisties in the Pintangle shop here.
