TAST Week 31

TAST Week 31

For TAST week 31, I have two stitches that are related. They demonstrate how a technique from one stitch can be applied to another. The first stitch is Woven Detached Chain stitch. This is great to use whenever you want to add a leaf shape to your embroidery. It is highly textured and people usually comment on it. I often add Woven Detached Chain stitch to floral sprays instead of using a regular detached chain (lazy daisy). In fact, wherever you see a detached chain in a pattern, you can substitute Woven Detached Chain stitch with great effect.

Beyond TAST Week 31

Beyond TAST is a challenge for those people who have done TAST before, or for those who already know the basic embroidery stitches.

The stitch for Beyond TAST week 31 is Woven Zig Zag Chain. As you can see weaving this stitch is the same technique as used Woven detached chain. Somewhere in the history of embroidery someone has taken this technique and applied it to Zig-Zag chain stitch. In the process they created a wonderful stitch. You can use this stitch over ribbon or if you use it over threads it becomes Woven chained bar. It is not hard to work but does take up quite a bit of thread. It is in the choice of threads that makes this stitch come to life.
