TAST Week 33
Cloud Filling is the stitch for TAST week 33. You mainly see it being used as a filler stitch. If you are a new hand to embroidery, you will find that filler stitches are amazingly useful. They can cover areas of your design and before long you start collecting them. This stitch covers areas quickly and easily.
The grid that you lay down for Cloud Filling stitch is traditionally created as a simple straight stitch. Through this, you lace a thread (see the tutorial here). But you can, if you choose, create a grid of blocks of satin stitches, detached chain stitches, bullion knots, fly stitches, cross stitches or even bugle beads. This changes the stitch. You can also experiment with threads. Choose different threads or novelty yarns to create some very different effects with your fill and of course have fun!
Beyond TAST week 33
Beyond TAST is a challenge for those people who have done TAST before, or for those who already know the basic embroidery stitches.
The stitch for Beyond TAST week 33 is Slipped Detached Chain stitch which is also known as Tulip Stitch. It does look a little like a flower. This stitch really comes alive when you experiment with different threads. You can even use ribbon for the chain part, then change threads for the stitches you thread under the chain. It’s a fun stitch and easy to work on even-weave fabric. Or you can use it in a more freeform way on regular fabric. As usual, click through to the tutorial on Tulip stitch for instructions and more ideas. I hope you enjoy experimenting this week.
