TAST Week 38
TAST week 38 is here! This week, I have two stitches that are similar and both are worked on a grid. You could experiment with them off-grid – in other words, work them in a free form manner but people usually work them within a square.
I think you may be surprised by Woven Cross Stitch, as although at first sight, it looks a bit mundane, it is very addictive. It is also one of those stitches that once you work it, you realise how much potential it has. Try different threads such as perle cotton #5, a variegated thread or even a fine knitting yarn. Beyond TAST week 38
Chained Cross Stitch is an interesting variety of Cross Stitch that is fun to work. If worked in a line it creates a textured band. I like it worked in a slightly thicker thread such as cotton perle #5. Once again, it is a stitch where a little experimentation is in order. Chained Cross stitch is also great to use as an edge on items such as needle books, pincushions, scissor keeps, small bags, fabric postcards and small projects. How to join TAST and where to share TAST week 38
If you are new to hand embroidery the challenge is to learn the stitch and share what you have learnt. If you are an experienced embroiderer, enjoy trying out the Beyond TAST stitch, give your work a modern twist and share it online so beginners can see what can be done with a little imagination.
Stitch a sample, photograph it, put in online on your blog, or share it in the TAST facebook group or where ever you hang out online. Hashtags are #TASTembroidery and #PintangleTAST on places like Instagram etc. If you have a blog, leave a comment on the Woven Cross Stitch or the Chained Cross Stitch stitch page. Don’t forget your full web address, including the HTTP or HTTPS part of the web address so that it becomes a live link. It means people can visit your site and see what you have done.
