TAST Week 25

TAST Week 25

TAST Week 25 is going to be an easy week for both the TAST stream and the Beyond TAST stream. I hope everyone has fun!

TAST stitch 42 beaded fern stitch sample

Fern Stitch is a very quick and easy stitch to work. So for those who need some catch-up time, just jump in and do it. Fern stitch consists of a simple arrangement of three straight stitches. But this deceptively simple stitch is ideal to use in floral sprays, Christmas, or celebration wreaths. And if you work it in single units they can make bird footprints across a sandy beach scene.

There is also a beaded version of Fern Stitch which I am sure crazy quilters and those who like richly decorated surfaces will enjoy.

Beyond TAST Week 25

The next stitch in the Beyond TAST challenge is Zig Zag Coral stitch. This stitch is a light lacy stitch, which makes a decorative border or you can work it row upon row to build up a pattern. You can use it to couch down braids, ribbon, or novelty thread which gives the embroidery a contemporary twist.

As Usual, you can find a tutorial for Zig Zag Coral stitch in my Stitch Dictionary. This stitch builds on previously learnt skills in week 16 when the challenge was to learn Coral stitch and Wrapped Coral stitch. If you need a refresher on both stitches in the Stitch dictionary.

Where to share TAST week 25

If you are new to hand embroidery the challenge is to learn the stitch and share what you have learnt. If you are an experienced embroiderer, give your work a modern twist and share it online so beginners can see what can be done with a little imagination.

Stitch a sample, photograph it, put it online on your blog, or share it in the TAST facebook group or where ever you hang out online. Hashtags are #TASTembroidery and #PintangleTAST on places like Instagram etc. If you have a blog leave a comment on the Fern stitch page, or the Zig Zag Coral stitchpage.

If you need more information the challenge guidelines are on the TAST FAQ page.
