Crazy Quilt Block 93 detail 603

Pistil stitch is simply a French Knot with a long tail. You guessed it, the challenge stitch is Pistil stitchYou can use Pistil stitch for the centre of flowers or arrange it in a circle to make a flower motif. If you experiment with threads you can have fun as the thread thickness will determine the size of the finished stitch and the look of the flower. You can work this stitch using lots of different threads such as cotton perle #8 and #5, fine braids, some knitting yarn and silk ribbon. Experiment and have fun!

As Usual, I have a tutorial for Pistil stitch in my stitch dictionary. I hope you have fun

Take a Stitch Tuesday 2023 Week 42 Beyond TAST

scroll stitch

For Beyond TAST, I am suggesting an often-forgotten linear stitch. It is called Scroll stitch. You can also work scroll stitch as a single line or two rows back to back to create an interesting double line.

At first glance, it does not look too exciting, but changing the spacing of this stitch creates all sorts of interesting effects from a braid-like stitch to a line of spaced knots.

Scroll stitch is a good linear stitch as you can work it on quite a tight curve so it can coil over an area with ease but you need to master the tension- hence placing it in the Beyond TAST challenge. Once you learn to control the tension it is quick and easy, so have fun!

If you are new to hand embroidery the challenge is to learn the stitch and share what you have learned. If you are an experienced embroiderer, enjoy Beyond TAST and give your work a modern twist. And of course, share it online so beginners can see what can be done with a little imagination.
