I have looked and looked and I think I have found a straight stitch free, embroidery detail! As anyone reading this series will know I am a bit keen on straight stitch and detached chain.
However this hand embroidery detail is not detached chain free as the daisy in motif featured today are made of detached chain stitch, worked in 4mm silk ribbon, with a centre of French knots worked in thread. The leaves are worked in 4 mm Silk ribbon using Japanese Ribbon stitch. I don’t have directions to work this stitch online – it is on my to do list but you can find directions for Ribbon Stitch here.
The twiggy bits behind them are feather stitch worked in a fine thread the same weight as DMC pearl 12 and French knots are sprinkled liberally about the place.
On the seam in the top right hand corner is a buttonhole stitch variation topped with a seed bead.
In the top left hand corner is a row of Oyster stitch worked loose so that a seed bead could be added at the base. Both seams were worked in a thread the same weight as DMC pearl 8.
Annie Whitsed of Annies Crazy World has featured a nautical themed block with seaweed stitched using coral stitch.
Pam Kellogg of Kitty & Me Designs is back in full swing and has published another peacock design.
Julia (aka Ribbonwiz) Camille’s Place has featured more beadwork on her Kimono block.
Rissa of Rissas Pieces is writing about ‘true buttonhole’ or what we call in Australia a tailors buttonhole.
Debra of Design Studio has been working on more seam embellishments and has details on her blog.
Lin of Purple Fan is also catching up on the details and published her latest in her blog.
Barbara of Thinking Out Loud is using shisha stitch to attach coins.
Debbie of Needle Lil More Time to Sew has featured a seam treatment made using with mother of pearl disk beads.
Linda at Chloe’s place has added two different details on her latest blocks.
For anyone just swinging by this series of posts are listed under 100 details for 100 days in this blog. Over on Flickr it is associated with the Crazyquilting Group and photos are tagged 100detailsin100days

This is gorgeous Sharon! Your work is always amazing to me!
Will you be highlighting the Bullion stitch at all? I have alot of trouble with that stitch despite all my reference books. Yours are always so perfect.
Congrats on having passed the 1/2 way mark! I finally managed to get a couple of my crazy patches up on my blog including my much needed “Crazy Spider”. This series has been truly inspirational.
Thanks Debbie for the compliments –
Rissa I think its even documented as that in a few stitching dictionaries – I will did out the references – and let you know them – also I think different countries call it different names.
This 100 Details series is incredibly inspired! Your seam treatments have provoked me to try some new ideas. I love the encrusted look you accomplish! Thanks for so much inspiration!
Oh, thanks for that detail! Tailor’s Buttonhole! 😀
