Threaded Back Stitch

Threaded Back Stitch

Threaded Back Stitch sample 1Threaded Back Stitch creates a decorative line that is quick and easy to work. It is an ideal stitch for children’s projects, yet interesting enough for experienced stitchers as you can vary this stitch by using different weights of thread, colours, and textures. Since it is based on Back stitch it will follow a curve well.

How to work Threaded Back Stitch

Threaded Back Stitch 1

Work a foundation row of back stitch. If you need a refresher on how to work Back Stitch you will find a tutorial here. Make each stitch slightly longer and looser than usual to accommodate the thread you will weave under them.

Threaded Back Stitch 2Use a blunt-ended tapestry needle to weave a second thread alternately up and down under the row of back stitches. This weaving movement is made by passing the needle under the foundation stitches and without entering the fabric.

Threaded Back Stitch 3

Contrasting threads work well.

Threaded Back Stitch sample 2

In the sample above I have woven flat kitting ribbon through two lines of back stitch.
