Free Primitive Floral Hand Embroidery Pattern

Free Primitive Floral Hand Embroidery Pattern

Free hand embroidery pattern from Pintangle.comThis design in the style of a Primitive floral hand embroidery pattern is free for you to use in a project of your choice

For this design I would choose a thread with a firm twist such as cotton perle #8 or #5.

This design can be worked using surface embroidery stitches using back stitch,  chain stitch, whipped chain stitch or  stem stitch. The leaves could be filled with a stitch such as Cretan Stitch. Or you could work leaves and flowers in Satin stitch or Outlined satin stitch.

For the centre of the flowers, on the right project  I would be tempted to use buttons if I could find the right colours and size. How ever you adapt the pattern I hope you enjoy stitching it. Follow the links to tutorials if you need information on how to work these stitches.

This type of simple pattern is often used on items such as bags, totes, cushions, book covers or tea towels however I  am not sure people embroider tea towels these days but it is a suggestion. As I designed it I thought this pattern could be used for a  small padded bag used to protect a tablet or ipad. It could be a good gift idea as the holiday season is just around the corner.

If you need to know how I would transfer this pattern to fabric, I have a tutorial on how to transfer embroidery designs to fabric.

This pattern is for non commercial use.

Thread Twisties!

Experimenting with different threads can be expensive, as you would normally have to buy a whole skein of each type of thread. So I have made up my thread twisties which are a combination of different threads to use in creative hand embroidery. These enable you to try out stitching with something other than stranded cotton. For the price of just a few skeins, you can experiment with a bundle of threads of luscious colours and many different textures.

These are creative embroiders threads. With them, I hope to encourage you to experiment. Each Twistie is a thread bundle containing silk, cotton, rayon and wool. Threads range from extra fine (the same thickness as 1 strand of embroidery floss) to chunky couchable textured yarns. All threads have a soft and manageable drape so that twisting them around a needle makes experimental hand embroidery an interesting journey rather than a battle.  Many are hand dyed by me. All are threads I use. You may find a similar thread twist but no two are identical.

You will find my thread twisties in the Pintangle shop here.
