100 details for 100 days Day 95

crazy quilting idea -Day 95 in 100 details for 100days series

For Day 95 in this series I have two seams to feature. Both seams are made up of of arrangements of Detached Chain Stitches and straight stitch.

The first sample is a line of chain stitches worked along the base of a piece of hand dyed lace. I used a hand dyed thread which is the same weight as pearl #8. For both lace and threads I used Procion MX dyes. At the top of the chain stitches I worked some straight stitches using a fine metallic thread.  I then topped them with a blue seed bead.

The second seam embellishment idea run from top to bottom on left hand side of the photograph. I first couched a fine metalic braid to cover the seam. Along the edge I worked sets of three chain stitches using blue DMC cotton pearl #5 thread. Between the chain stitches using a fine thread I worked some straight stitches then topped them with a bright pink seed bead.

Both seam treatments are quick, simple and effective. These two seam embellishment ideas are suitable for beginners too!

If you are just swinging by, or a search engine has landed you here, this is day 95 in a series of articles that aim to give you embellishment ideas that you can use in your crazy quilting. If you want to print out this series 100 details for 100 days they are listed under that category.
