Detail 648 and 649 on my Freeform Band Sampler

I have 2  details of my band sampler to share with readers today because they are both similar stitches.

Both these areas are at the bottom of section 48 of my “For Love of Stitching” band sampler which you can read about further if you follow the link

Regular readers will remember that with this section  I patch worked together different foundation fabrics.

Thread, Fabric and Stitches Used on detail 648:

This is rice stitch.  I love doing this stitch in free form manner as you can see. I have always wanted to do a bag in this stitch and its varieties as the two layers of stitching can be lots of fun and it is easy to produce interesting layered effects.

I worked on hand dyed 25cnt linen using stranded cotton floss, perle #5 cotton, Perle#8 cotton, wool, and hand dyed silk.

Thread, Fabric and Stitches Used on detail 649:

This is a variety of the Rice stitch and is called Elongated  rice stitch. Both are needlepoint or canvas stitches but I work them on fabrics like linen and aida rather than canvas usually because that is what I have to hand!

This time the fabric is  a dark blue aida cotton. I used stranded cotton floss, perle #5 cotton, Perle#8 cotton, wool, and hand dyed silk. Some of the thread on the base layer is a fine hand knitting wool I had to hand. It has a metallic fleck in it.

This section of the sampler was worked January 2010.

Size:

This area is a section in my  Love of Stitching Band Sampler which is 15 cm (6 inches) wide and currently measures 96 feet 5 inches (2,938.78 centimetres), or  32.138 yards which is 29.3878 meters. It is still growing…and is all hand stitched
