This band illustrates two rows of stitches. The first is row up and down buttonhole stitch. The second is a variety of chain stitch called two colour chain stitch. You can find directions on page 57 of The Embroidery Stitch Bible
As I explained when I introduced this section of the sampler many of these stitch samples where worked to demonstrate stitches for The Young Stitchers group at the local branch of the Embroiderers Guild which I co-ordinated at the time. This version of chain stitch is a lot of fun for young hands.

This section of the sampler is worked on tea towel linen which is not quite an even weave.

Size:
All samples are 15 cm (6 inches) wide and stitched together in one long band sampler.
The sampler is currently 44 ft 5 inches or 533 inches (1353.83 centimetres) or 14.8 yards (13.53 metres) long and still being added to.
