Section 31 of the For Love of Stitching Band Sampler

section 31 a colour exercise of band sampler

Section 31 of the For Love of Stitching Band  sampler is a small study in mixing colour with thread. You will notice that it is worked completely in cross stitch.

I have worked a series of blocks each with the under bar one colour the top bar of the the crossed stitch is another. There are actually only 12 different threads used in this piece. You can see them represented in the top line of blocks as these are ‘pure’ colours.

Threads:

DMC Stranded cotton floss

Fabric:

Aida

Size:

The For Love of Stitching Band Sampler is 15 cm (6 inches) wide. It consists of different strips of fabric which are are stitched together to form one long strip. It currently measures 24.8 yards or 22.75 metres long and I have more bands to add.

  1. I love doing this in needlepoint with tent stitches – it reads as "plaid" – which ladies of the U.K. and Australia know as "tartan." I have also worked the weft in beads instead of floss, and it looks beaded solid.
