TAST Week 9

TAST Week 9

Buttonhole wheel stitch sample 4

Take a Stitch Tuesday Week 9 Basic TAST

The challenge this week, is to experiment with Buttonhole Wheel which is a fun and easy stitch. I often use these to form small floral sprays making them useful stitches for crazy quilting and surface embroidery, but you can also use them in a contemporary manner too. You will find a full tutorial on the Buttonhole wheel page, alongside ideas on how to use it in your stitching projects. The same page has a tip on controlling the stitch if the edges flick up, and information on half and quarter buttonhole wheels.

Take a Stitch Tuesday Week 9 Beyond TAST

buttonhole wheel cup sample of stitching

This stitch is simply fun. Buttonhole wheel cup is raised from the foundation fabric. Start with a buttonhole wheel and work detached buttonhole stitches into the edge, building up rows to form a cup. It is loads of fun, and you can easily add it to contemporary embroidery pieces or work them as flowers. It makes an excellent middle of a flower or daffodil. Have fun with it and see what you come up with. I also frequently use it in contemporary embroideries, such as my heavily textured pieces. You will find the tutorial for buttonhole wheel cup here. Explore it and enjoy!

If you are new to hand embroidery the challenge is to learn the stitch and share what you have learned. If you are an experienced embroiderer, enjoy Beyond TAST and give your work a modern twist. And of course, share it online so beginners can see what can be done with a little imagination.
