Today I would like to share another crazy quilt seam embellishment which is on block 71 of the I dropped the button box Quilt. This is what the block looks like. The thumbnail will take you to a larger image of the block. I hope these little details gives readers a few ideas of how to decorate seams on a crazy quilt.
This seam is covered with a ribbon which is couched down using chevron stitch. I used a perle #5 cotton thread and then laced it with a knitting yarn that is like a ribbon.
Detail 474
Detail 474 is of feather stitch worked in perle #5 cotton thread. After working the stitch I added a bead to the end of each of the arms.

Under this spray of buttons is a piece of lace which I hand dyed and then secured it to the block with lots of French knots. The buttons are all modern and there is a coffee cup and pot as over coffee a friend challenged me to use ugly cheap stuff on a block. It felt appropriate to use them there.
This article is part of a regular series which illustrates the hand embroidered seams, embellishments and decorations on my crazy quilt I dropped the button box. If you want to read more articles like this look under Crazy Quilt details category
