TAST Week 37

whipped wheel stitch sample 6

TAST Week 37

For TAST week 37, I am introducing a textured stitch called Whipped wheel. This stitch produces a raised ribbed circle. Until you try it you don’t know how much fun this stitch can be. This is one of my favourite textured stitches. If you look closely at much of my stitching you will find them tucked into all sorts of places. Whipped wheels are quick to work once you have mastered them. You can use Whipped wheels alone – as an accent stitch, a point of colour, an interesting texture, or they can be scattered over an area, almost like a powdered filling. As usual, you will find a tutorial for whipped wheel stitch here. Enjoy learning and experimenting with it.

Beyond TAST week 37

Whipped Spoke Stitch in contemporary embroidery Stitch 79 in TASTWhipped Spoke Stitch is another stitch I love. It is very close to Whipped wheel and you can easily work the two together. You can work it in lines or circles or as part of a border or simple freeform, as I have done in the sample above. I used hand-dyed cotton perle #5 thread for the Whipped Spoke stitch. Other stitches used in this sample are with French knots, Cast on stitch, Bullion knots, and whipped wheel stitch. Tutorials to all of these stitches can be found in my Stitch Dictionary.
