For the Love of Stitching Sampler – Band 193

This is the last band of stitching in this sampler. As you can see it is a total change against line upon line of variations on buttonhole stitch.

buttonhole samplerAs I was finishing the sampler the evening news covered a story that made me ashamed of being Australian. I was so appalled at the Cronulla riots that I stitched this comment on the bottom of the sampler.

The first text that appears on the sampler in the first section which was worked in 1996. This section was worked in 2005 which means I went 9 years with out  what I have come to call an ‘autobiographical comment’.

Since this comment in 2005 all sorts of snippets have and comments have found their way on to sampler. Some people really enjoy them others enjoy the stitches. I add them as I am in the mood so it is an irregular habit from here on in.

The sampler changes and shifts as time goes on and in doing so takes on the story of the time I worked it.

I hope you enjoyed this section as we are going to move on to the next. I will introduce it later on in the week.

Fabric and Thread:

The sample is worked on Aida fabric using a hand dyed cotton thread which is about the same weight and thickness as perle 8

Date:

This section of the sampler was finished in December 2005.

Size:

The For Love of Stitching Band Sampler is 15 cm (6 inches) wide. It consists of different strips of fabric which are are stitched together to form one long strip. It currently measures 24.8 yards or 22.75 metres long and I have more bands to add.
