Stitches:
This seam decoration is made by embroidering the edge of lace with three straight stitches then adding beads to the end.
Thread:
Black rayon ribbon floss
Placement and Foundation Fabric:
This bounds the edge of piece 3 and edges of piece 1 and 2 on the pattern I published when I introduced block 3. In the same article I also talked about the foundation fabrics I used.
Type of lace, braid or trim
This is a lace that is made of a rayon cotton mix which I hand dyed red (the photo shows a strong red but it is not quite so strong in life)
Dyes
Procion cold water dyes for the lace
Beads
Seed beads on both lace and at the end of the straight stitches
What is the back story?
This regularly published series aims to illustrate and document the hand embroidered seams, embellishments and decorations on my crazy quilt I dropped the button box. All articles are categorised in the projects under Crazy Quilt details which enables readers to browse back through the series.
Free Crazy quilt block patterns
In the process of documenting the seam decorations on this quilt, as I get to each block I am diagramming it out for readers as a free crazy quilt pattern. Links to these free pattern pages are listed on the CQ details FAQ page.
