For the Love of Stitching Sampler – Band 437

This band of stitching on Section 32 of the For Love of Stitching Band Sampler  is based on a foundation of 2 rows of herringbone. The top and bottom rows are tied and then laced with a dark metallic thread. In the middle of the 2 rows I have added lines of seed beads .

Hand dyed cotton perle #5 and metallic yarn

26 cnt linen

This section of the sampler was worked during April and May of 2008.

The For Love of Stitching Band Sampler is 15 cm (6 inches) wide. It consists of different strips of fabric which are are stitched together to form one long strip. It currently measures 24.8 yards or 22.75 metres long and I have more bands to add.

  1. Sarah. I think the best bet is to choose a width you like and simply start. It is easy to agonise over the design and never actually start.
The main thing is to think about the width as it is the only thing you cant change! Fabric you can change – colour etc but not width

I have seen people start band samplers that are as small as 4 inches wide and as wide as 12. Mine is 6 inches wide because I like working on an 8 inch hoop but you might be different. Work a few scrap widths ie try a line of 5 inches, 6 inches, 7 inches and so on and see what you like.

  2. I wish I lived closer and could take one of your classes! I've been watching your progress on your sampler with awe, and have been considering making my own. Any tips for someone completely new to samplers?
