The Cross Stitch Writing Tool is a handy online tools that many stitchers will find useful. You can make a charted design out of any line of text. So this tool is very useful for those of us who are addicted to quotes or like recording special moments in stitch, such as the various notations I have made on my long band sampler. If you are new to the site you can find out more about my band sampler here
Clear directions are on the Cross Stitch Writing Tool website but to create the chart you simply click to select the font you want. From the alphabet at the top of the web page select the letters you want by clicking the pink letter keys. Spell out the quote or sentence and the letters appear in the field below. When done click the print button and you have a charted design.
When you have your chart you will need to figure out the size of the fabric that you need and the same people have provided a fabric and stitch calculator here.
On the same site you will find a selection of free printable graph paper of different size grids so you can design your own patterns by hand.
This is a handy site to bookmark or pin to use on your next project or for some project in the future.

Sharon, This is fabulous. Not only for cross stitch, but also for tapestry weaving, or lots of other uses. Thanks so much for the link.
Wow really need more info.
I am very interested
Thanks, Sharon! This is a handy tool.
What an amazing tool. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this link – it’s brilliant! I tried it out and it works well except that I couldn’t figure out how to ‘chart’ a space between words so I need to work on that. This will certainly be a time saver. 🙂
Thank you Sharon. You are the fount of all embroidery knowledge. This was just what I needed as my friends are celebrating their Ruby wedding and I was planning to make a special cushion with an embroidered label.
Thank you
Wow, this is awesome! I hope they come up with one for line stitching (such as back or stem) as I’m struggling with the labels for my TAST stitches. Thank you for posting this!
HI Beth check out the fonts on the site as there are some fonts that are lines rather than cross stitch
