TAST Week 42

TAST Week 42

Half Chevron stitch sample 10

The stitch for TAST week 42 is Half Chevron stitch. This stitch is an example of a variety comprised of parts of two different stitches that make up a new stitch.  Half Chevron stitch consists of half Chevron Stitch and half Cretan Stitch both have been in the TAST challenge, but if you need a reminder of which is which, then follow the links to the tutorials for a bit of a refresher.

This stitch is fun to use as a simple border, or you can work it row upon row to create a filling pattern. It will also follow a curve and you can use it to couch down threads. Of course, for crazy quilters, it is a fun foundation stitch to embellish seams and you can easily add beads to it. Generally, it’s fun and interesting.

Beyond TAST Week 42

Beaded Hedebo Edge stitch sample

For Beyond TAST, I propose Beaded Hedebo Edge. I am sure stitchers will enjoy this pretty stitch. Beaded Hedebo Edge — as the name indicates — is an edging stitch. But you can use it as a regular decorative stitch too. So the next time you are scratching your head wondering how to edge an item such as a fabric postcard, a fabric book page, a Christmas decoration, or a needle case and matching pin cushion Beaded Hedebo Edge can finish off an item neatly. As a decorative surface embroidery stitch, it has loads of creative potential. One way of using it is around the edge of paisley patterns. You will find a full step-by-step tutorial for  Beaded Hedebo Edge in my Stitch Dictionary.
