I had fun experimenting on this particular area of my sampler. The middle is made up of 2 lines of herringbone Cretan stitch. The herringbone feet are very narrow and the beads cover it a little but it is an interesting variety of Cretan stitch. I worked it in a hand dyed perle #5 cotton and top and bottom border is made up of a variety of arrow stitch.
I was experimenting with varieties of Cretan stitch. On this band I changed the height of the arms. The row is worked in a hand dyed cotton perle #5. (You can tell which thread I reach for all the time)
This is a line of Cretan stitch worked closely and it is also worked using a hand dyed cotton perle #5.
Then I must have changed my mind or spotted this stitch in a book and decided to try it as the area is chained cross worked row upon row to form a pattern . The chain cross is stranded hand dyed variegated cotton and I added beads in the spaces between the stitches.
These are close up details 703 to 706 that I worked on section 51 on my Love of Stitching Band Sampler. If you are curious and want to know more about this section of the sampler click on the thumbnail. The sampler itself is only 6 inches wide but it is 96 feet 5 inches or 29.3878 meters long.
In this section of the sampler the fabric I used is a 25cnt evenweave linen and it was worked between June and December of 2010.

hi sharon, what stitch do you use when you are writing on your fabric? my base fabric is flannelette. any suggestions?
Jacki I would use stem stitch – I said this last time you asked the question – I figure you did not see my reply but I answered on the comment honest!
Hi Sharon,
wonderful inspirations for stitches. I had worked this half herringbone and half Cretan stitch as borders. This is one of the shisha stitches. Was waiting to see its appearance on TAST.

Love the colours in the section. I am not a fan of Cretan stitch but I like Herringbone. Is this a combinations stitch? If so how is it done?
Juno It is half herringbone and half Cretan your question has reminded me that I did not include it in the TASt stitches so I will add it
Thanks, Sharon. That would be great.
Hi! I see your reference to chained cross stitch, but I haven’t been able to find instruction for that stitch combination either on inaminuteago or in a general web search. Can you tell me where I can find out how to do this? I love that lattice effect!!!
Hi Gina it is here https://pintangle.com/2013/08/27/take-a-stitch-tuesday-79-chained-cross/
Thank you so much!!! I have all of your stitch pages, and I keep waiting till I get “better” to start them LOL
You do such beautiful work!
Scrumptious thread and fun stitches, beautiful.
