Detail:
This is small red squirrel I designed because when we were in England, Eve my daughter loved feeding them in the park and she suggested a squirrel. He is only tiny about an inch and half tall. I worked a drawing from a photograph.
Thread:
Worked in a single strand of cotton floss with a tiny seed bead for the eye.
What is the story?
This regularly published series aims to illustrate and document the hand embroidered seams, embellishments and decorations on my crazy quilt I dropped the button box. All articles are categorised in the projects under Crazy Quilt details which enables readers to browse back through the series.
Free Crazy quilt block patterns
In the process of documenting the seam decorations on this quilt, as I get to each block I am diagramming it out for readers as a free crazy quilt pattern. Links to these free pattern pages are listed on the CQ details FAQ page.

He’s gorgeous! And a proper red squirrel, too!
I love this little squirrel! I took some pictures of one in the park, posted on my other blog, and thought when I saw it that I need to learn this. Just adorable!
Your squirrel reminds me of the acrobatic antics of ours reaching the bird feeder. He’s very nice.
Oh, how adorable! I love squirrels, but we don’t have red ones here in my part of Canada. There are a couple of black squirrels who visit my house on a daily basis–it may have something to do with the peanuts I toss out the back door. Your stitches really capture the bright eyes and the way they curl their tails behind them when they sit down.
