This morning I will be introducing block 16, of the I dropped the button box quilt.
As you can see this block consists of 7 pieces of light coloured fabric in it. Although it has only 7 pieces of fabric there are quite a few buttons.
Fabric content:
- Piece 1: Silk from an after 5 dress.
- Piece 2: Cotton synthetic mix. This came from a soft furnishing shop so it is probably curtain fabric.
- Piece 3: Silk
- Piece 4:A synthetic soft furnishing fabric
- Piece 5: Cotton covered with lace
- Piece 6: Cotton synthetic mix.
- Piece 7: Satin

As I have explained before this quilt is a Y2K quilt which is made up of 2001 different elements. By element I mean either a different fabric, lace, braid, charm, buttons or ribbon. This count is an ongoing count of items and pieces in the quilt blocks documented so far.
- Fabric: 7
- Lace, braid and ribbon: 4
- Buttons: 8
- Total items on this block: 19

What is the story?
This regularly published series aims to illustrate and document the hand embroidered seams, embellishments and decorations on my crazy quilt I dropped the button box. All articles are categorised in the projects under Crazy Quilt details which enables readers to browse back through the series.
Free Crazy quilt block patterns
In the process of documenting the seam decorations on this quilt, as I get to each block I am diagramming it out for readers as a free crazy quilt pattern. Links to these free pattern pages are listed on the CQ details FAQ page.

I’m having a hard time finding vintage buttons☹️
HI Bonny I understand but that is what makes them special! I get most of my vintage stuff from secondhand and charity shops but I am sure there are etsy sellers that can sell you vintage buttons. There are also button shops that sell vintage buttons. A google search online may help you with that.
