Introducing crazy quilt block 65

crazy quilt block

Crazy quilt block 65 on my I Dropped the Button Box quilt is part of a series of articles which aims to illustrate and document the hand embroidered seams, and decorations on the quilt. Along the way, I hope to provide some inspiration and ideas on how to stitch a crazy quilt embellishments. Articles  in the series are categorised under Crazy Quilt details which enables readers to browse back through the series.

Block 65 is a much stronger colour than block 64. Click on the image of the block and you will see a larger photo. It is what I call Victorian tones. They are not bright colours but they are strong colour as and it is one of the blocks that forms part of the strong coloured central band  that runs diagonally across the quilt. There is photo of the full quilt on the CQ details FAQ page and in that you can see the set of the quilt and what I am rattling on about.

Over the next few weeks I will share and write about the embroidery and embellishments in close details. I hope readers will enjoy it.

  1. I love all these paper pieced blocks. I makes it so much easier to do the crazy quilt block. Your designs are terrific. Thanks so much for them. I can’t wait to finish them. I have so much lace, buttons, ribbons and such. I am unable to do the hand designs because of my hands but I have some very nice stitches on my sewing machine.

  2. This is a tremendously beautiful block — as soon as I saw it, my heart sighed with pleasure. 🙂 What is the stitch that you used along the edge of piece 6? It looks like a cross between a bullion stitch and a pistil stitch. How is it done?

    1. The stitch is bullion feather -Basically its is feather stitch with each prong being a bullion I will make a note of it to include it int TAST as it is nearly impossible to describe without photos. I will add it my list!
