New Thread Twisties

New Thread Twisties

Just a very quick announcement to let everyone know that there are new Thread Twisites in the shop. New colours and new threads — a great start to the day!

I am often asked about my twisties. I make them up to encourage people to try different threads. Often, a beginner starts out with stranded cotton floss. Nothing wrong with that at all with cotton floss, but many surface embroidery stitches look better if you use a thread with a firm twist, such as cotton perle #8 or #5. Also I like to encourage people to be adventurous with threads as it can really bring personality to your work.  There are many threads on the market and if you are new to embroidery, or experimenting with creative embroidery, and do not have a stash of threads, it can be a bit expensive to try them out.

So, to solve this, I assemble a range of threads in different colour-ways. Each pack of thread twisties has at least 35 threads cut into 2-meter (79 inches) lengths. Each twist is made up of cotton, rayon, and wool threads. My twisties consist of threads that are all different. Some are thick and some thin. Threads range from extra fine (the same thickness as 1 strand of embroidery floss) to thicker chunky threads that can be couched into place (the same thickness as 8 strands of embroidery floss). Some shine and some have a little sheen. I choose many threads on their ability to twist around a needle and create interesting textures. My aim is to make experimental creative embroidery a fun and fascinating journey

Check out the new colour-ways, as they are available in the Pintangle shop now. Once a colour-way sells out, that is it — I don’t repeat the colour-ways. We make up similar ones, but not the same, as we cannot guarantee to be able to repeat the exact same threads.
