I have been Squidooing!

I have been Squidooing!

A couple of weeks back I pointed to Squidoo. Discovering this was fatal I am afraid, as I have been going through bookmarks, this blog and doing a few extra searches and building a couple of my own squidoo link sites. The idea behind a Squidoo list, or what they call a lens, is that people can build lists of useful bookmarks around a particular topic. So if you are passionate about a topic you can set up a small site to share resources online in one place.

I was holding off announcing that I had jumped in and built a couple of these sites because I thought I would do so when the topic areas I had chosen were complete and polished. I have decided that these addictive little projects will not necessarily ever be complete. They are an ongoing interest. So here we go read them as works in progress but hopefully developed enough to be useful. They certainly will keep you busy browsing!

Fabric Postcards is a collection of links that lead to information about making postcards, fabric postcard groups, inspiration and a heap of techniques which will be expanded. Also at the bottom there are links to peoples flickr sites. If you tag your cards fabricpostcard or if you are part of the 6x4lives and use the tag 6x4lives an small thumbnail of your work will pulled into squidoo and people can click on it and be taken to your flickr space.

For readers, a lens is RSS friendly so if you use an RSS feed such as Bloglines you can subscribe to any of the lists and receive updates as they appear.

The next lens I started was a collection of links on Crazy Quilting which is also still in development but gutsy enough to point people too. I thought many of these links would be useful for people new to crazy quilting and provide the community a place to point them to where links are all in one place. So spread the word if you think it will be useful to people.

Hand embroidery is another lens which is still in development but also useful not only to hand embroiderers but to crazy quilters as many resources to various kinds of hand stitching are available in this list.

Finally the last lens I am pointing to today is Sewing and Craft room organization as every stitcher I know is always interested in a well designed craft or sewing area.

Now these sites are all in development and I am still working through a ton of bookmarks and annotating links plus the archives of this blog, but if there is something you think should be there please let me know. Even if I know of the site, for instance, I know of few good tutorials bloggers have published which I have yet to link to but will, a reminder will not go astray. On the other hand, I do not want to include commercial sites that are simply that. I don’t do reciprocal linking, nor am I interested in link farms. If a resource is there and I think it’s good, I link to it because it is useful not because they link to me.

I have worked quite hard on these little collections so I hope people find them useful. If you think there are ways to improve these sites drop me a line or use the squidoo rating system as it gives me feedback. If you think they are worth while please spread the word on discussion lists, blogs etc so people can make use of them and don’t forget to bookmark them or subscribe to them in your RSS feed.

  1. Sharon,
I found the CQ site yesterday doing a search for something – meaning of flowers, I think. It is wonderful – and I shared the link with one of the groups – maybe CQ for Newbies. Love it. You do such great service for us all. Thank you!! Charlene in SC, US

  2. Hah!! Like I don’t have enough catagories in my BlogLines feed! Now I will have to add Squidoo Lenses!

This is fun. It’s similar to what I do with del.icio.us… but more organized.

Thanks. I can see myself building related lenses…
