The next section of my sampler is a highly textured piece that is also an experiment with colour. It is another mood but is another highly textured piece. It is a single sample rather than a sampler as such.
Section 29 is worked on cotton and on it you will discover stitches such as buttonhole wheels, buttonhole wheel cups, French knots, bullion knots, Palestrina Knots, caston stitch, double cast on stitch, couching and woven trellis stitch.

Cotton

Hi Bette – I teach this in my Sumptuous surfaces class – 6 weeks on how to design pieces just like this
I, too am intrigued by your textural pieces. I have done a bit of this, but am interested in doing more. My question is on approach/design. I assume it's not planned out in advance as to which stitch goes where. The question is where do you start? With the placement of the big ring? do you then decide where the main elements go and fill in around?
Thanks for any answers you might have.
Bette
I love your textural pieces, and I'm so impressed by how prolific you are!
