It is a version of wave stitch which is worked on a foundation of blocks of satin stitch then threaded with tubular knitting yarn. It was an experiment which was fun to do.

The For Love of Stitching Band Sampler is 15 cm (6 inches) wide and consists of different strips of fabric which are stitched together to form one long strip. It currently measures 96 feet 5 inches (2,938.78 centimetres), or 32.138 yards which is 29.3878 meters. It is still growing…

I didn’t recognize the wave stitch in this thread! It looks almost knitted, very nice.
Yes Annet the thread is a knitted tube – producing a fine braid like thread. It is a synthetic fiber. You often see a fine version of it used in fringing.
